Representation in Tide
Representation in Tide:
Dress code, hairstyle, fashion, make-up
Red lipstick, polkadot dress, quite feminine, women were heavily sexualised especially in the 1950s, outfit didn’t match well with the make-up and the hair tied back with a hair band shows that they prioritised looking after the home, quite minimalistic.
Intertextuality to famous (think Hollywood) women of the time!
Hollywood women at the time were heavily sexualised by society (Mainly men) and they didn't care about their intelligence or anything regardless of how famous you were.
Ideologies and lifestyle
House cleaning, subservient to the men, seen as clumsy / helpless.
Narrative, the job role
Housework, looking after the man etc.
Use of text and language
“Tide’s got what women want!”, “ No wonder you women buy more tide than any other washday product!”
